I read on MuchMoreMusic news headlines this morning that Alanis Morissette got herself ordained as a minister and that she plans to help same-sex couples get married. I thought that was pretty cool...so I had to post about it.
Heh. It's exciting to have a picture of the thing, even though it's not like I didn't know what it'd look like. *shrugs*. The date set for the release of the Dutch version is November 22, so probably it'll be out here at around the same time...?
And so endeth another good TV show: Sex and the City. Well, in Canada, anyway. It's been over for like a month in the US, but I'm not in the US, so let's just ignore that, shall we?
Now that this show's over, I wish I'd paid more attention to it while it was on...saw most of the beginning episodes, and most of the end, but I'm missing some stuff in the middle there somewhere...
So, with all the good shows ending this year -- Angel, Friends, SATC -- or already ended -- Buffy, Roswell, Dark Angel, and even The X-Files, though I didn't watch that much when it was actually still airing -- I start to wonder...is there anything still on that's really worth watching anymore? I mean, really? Or is it all just passably decent stuff that we watch because its marginally better than some other crappy show that's on? Hrmm.
I'm sure there's still something good on TV somewhere. But I finally find myself with a serious lack of TV fandoms. Hey, maybe I'll get more work done next year, then? Here's hoping...
Sorry about the triviality of the subject (subject? there was a subject?) of this post, as I'm sure there's much more important stuff I could be discussing. Apologies to anyone I've successfully bored to tears.
[edit]
And just so this post isn't a complete waste of space, why don't I shift gears entirely, and make a suggestion? If you are so inclined, I recommend that you go over here and watch the new Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban Theatrical Trailer. Oooooh, aaahhh!
(Then again, I have the sinking suspicion this trailer was out about a month ago, and I was just too busy to notice.)

...Because it was +4 degrees Celsius this morning, and there was a man wearing a t-shirt and shorts outside walking his dog. Ah, Canadians and their love of positive temperatures...ah, Canadians and their persistence in immediately taking advantage of "warm" weather...
How happy is the blameless vestal's lot!
The world forgetting, by the world forgot.
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind!
Each pray'r accepted, and each wish resign'd;
Labour and rest, that equal periods keep;
"Obedient slumbers that can wake and weep;"
Desires compos'd, affections ever ev'n,
Tears that delight, and sighs that waft to Heav'n.
Grace shines around her with serenest beams,
And whisp'ring angels prompt her golden dreams.
For her th' unfading rose of Eden blooms,
And wings of seraphs shed divine perfumes,
For her the Spouse prepares the bridal ring,
For her white virgins hymeneals sing,
To sounds of heav'nly harps she dies away,
And melts in visions of eternal day.
- excerpt from "Eloisa to Abelard" by Alexander Pope
Is it bad that I really want to see this movie? I don't have time at all right now, but hopefully it'll be on for a while longer, 'cause it looks really good for some reason. :S
Urrgh. I'm here right now because I can't figure out this case I have to do for class...annoying little bugger, this case is... Baah.
Anyway, I've decided that I should listen to more classical music. "More" here pretty much signifies any level of listening above "none", which is the amount of classical I currently listen to. See, the way I figure it is, 1) I play[ed] the piano for a long time and in that time, hopefully I've gained an appreciation for classical music, and 2) I seem to quite enjoy soundtrack scores, and really, that's just "classical" music with a context. Well, and possibly with a bit of updating here and there. Anyway, I just figure that, if I actually give the music a chance, it might not really be as dull or boring as one might think it would be, and I think I might even enjoy it. And if not...well, it doesn't hurt to try, right?
So, any suggestions on where to start?
Questions:
1. so you've what, decided to minimalize your posting?? c'mon girl...let's see some blogging action...and yes I know how hypocritical this is...:) Sorry, sorry...been a bit busy lately...in fact, I think if I were to actually start trying to do all the readings I'm supposed to have done already, I wouldn't ever catch up to where I should be right now....right now, my main worries are this damned case and the group assignment I have, both for the same lovely course (you know which one it is, Suz...the one with the most boring-sounding name possible... :P). Hrumph. Also, there isn't much going on right now that's worth blogging about (hm. interesting to use 'blog' as a verb. Blog you! Yeah? Blog you too!) because, quite frankly, who wants to write (or read, for that matter) about the daily trials and tribulations of attending university, really? Then again, if I run out of other things to say....I'll just bore you all with school details. Kind of like what I'm doing right now. Hehe.
2. What makes a song "stick-in-your-head"able? Hmm. Good question. Um...a catchy tune or chorus? A memorable line of lyrics? Multiple listening repetitions? Someone like Tori Amos who uses some sort of witchcraft to make her songs stick in your head? Something that's easy to remember? Or, in the case of soundtrack scores or songs, hearing the song played while you're seeing a memorable image or scene? Any or all of those factors, I would think, would contribute to a song's "stick factor". :)
You guys have got to check this out: it's Middle-earth Furniture. Dude. Way too expensive, of course, but very cool nonetheless. You know, in a geeky kind of way. :)
(The Fellowship is discussing how best to get back down from the snowy mountain, Caradhras.)
"...their retreat was now difficult. It might well prove impossible. Only a few paces from the ashes of their fire the snow lay many feet deep, higher than the heads of the hobbits; in places it had been scooped and piled by the wind into great drifts against the cliff.
'If Gandalf would go before us with a bright flame, he might melt a path for you,' said Legolas. The storm had troubled him little, and he alone of the Company remained still light of heart.
'If Elves could fly over mountains, they might fetch the Sun to save us,' answered Gandalf. 'But I must have something to go on. I cannot burn snow.'" - The Fellowship of the Ring, Book 2, Chapter 3: The Ring Goes South (p. 382)
Hehe. Gandalf is pretty funny when he's anxious. :)
